A poor Border Collie has ended up being injured while playing an innocent game of ‘fetching the stick’!
While this is a very common and seemingly innocent game that owners play with thier dog, it is becoming the cause of the “‘most common’ type of injury” says a vet from Sydney Australia.
The ‘most common’ type of injury
In the process of retrieving the stick, the pet copped a very “deep” wound that went all the way down the back of the throat, along his neck and into his chest, causing a collapsed lung and nerve damage.

The owner must be deeply upset over his dog’s injuries, and probably never knew the risks involved in thowing a stick for his border collie.
Northside Emergency Veterinary Service (NEVS) said that they have seen a “spike in the number of life-threatening injuries caused by owners and their pets playing fetch with sticks.“
Perhaps it is time to replace the stick with another, safe toy!
